Lower Back Pain

Overview

Lower back pain is the most common type of back pain and is felt between the bottom of the rib cage and the top of the legs.  

Symptoms include stiffness and tension or pain and soreness.

Causes

Causes are varied as this part of the back supports the weight of the upper body and is the pivotal area or bending and stretching. 

Muscles and ligaments can become strained, weakened or tense due to:

  • Strain from an accident or fall
  • Lifting incorrectly
  • Gluteal Sag or Drag
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Wearing the wrong shoes
  • Slouching when sitting
  • Sitting for long periods
  • Tiredness
  • Stress
  • Lack of warm-up before exercising
